About the Role

The Device Experience team is building intelligent, desktop-native applications that redefine how people engage with their PCs. These aren’t traditional apps—they’re responsive, local-first experiences that surface AI-powered insights and actions seamlessly, right when and where users need them.

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will drive the architecture, performance, and delivery of flagship applications that run directly on Windows. This is a hands-on role where you’ll help shape the technical direction, mentor engineers, and collaborate closely across design, product, and AI platform teams. Your work will define how HP IQ brings the future of work to life: fluid, adaptive, and powered by device-native intelligence.

  • Integrate tightly with Windows OS, orchestration layers, and backend services to deliver privacy-respecting, low-latency interactions.
  • Partner with AI and platform teams to shape the intelligent behavior of our applications.
  • Mentor junior engineers and establish engineering best practices in a fast-moving environment.
  • Drive cross-functional planning with design and product to develop intuitive and scalable user experiences.
  • Evaluate and introduce new tools, frameworks, and system capabilities that level up the entire engineering team.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience developing production-grade native desktop applications, with a strong track record on Windows.
  • Deep proficiency in C# and the .NET ecosystem, with experience shipping performance-critical features.
  • Hands-on experience with WPF, WinUI, or other modern Windows UI frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of application architecture patterns like MVVM, and scalable UI engineering.
  • Proven ability to lead technical direction, drive architectural decisions, and align teams around shared goals.
  • Experience with asynchronous, event-driven programming and multithreaded UI responsiveness.
  • Familiarity with dev tools including Visual Studio, Git, CI/CD workflows, and performance profiling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience building and launching intelligent or context-aware applications.
  • Familiarity with orchestrating cross-platform features spanning desktop, mobile, or embedded systems.
  • Exposure to HCI, UX research, or AI-enhanced interfaces.
  • Comfort working across multiple stakeholders, including product managers, researchers, and platform engineers.
  • Passion for creating beautiful, functional software that elevates the user experience.
